In Game 3 of the National League Championship Series from Citi Field in New York last week, Buehler leaned on his curveball to escape jams, holding the New York Mets scoreless through four innings to set up an 8-0 victory. He pitched differently, but at times resembled the frontline starter who powered the Dodgers’ rotation in Octobers past.
There is no clutch gene. We know this by now, right? Judge is not shrinking under the postseason lights, he’s not somehow low on True Yankee points, he’s not a choker — all of that is ridiculous. That is not how the world works, let alone something as difficult as baseball. But it’s fair to say that if Judge doesn’t snap out of this slump soon, the Yankees may well get swept in this series, and there will be a whole offseason of people asking why their superstar slugger vanished in the postseason — again. Even Judge himself knows he has to “step up.”

On Monday after the Dodgers won the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets to set up a World Series matchup with the New York Yankees, longtime radio announcer Charley Steiner received news worthy of an even bigger champagne celebration.

Shohei Ohtani juuuuust missed a home run to right field, instead hitting a double off the wall. After a short hop at second base caught Gleyber Torres off guard, Ohtani moved to third as the ball dribbled into the infield.
• Kiké Hernández added a triple, too, making the Dodgers the first team with two triples in a Fall Classic game since the Yankees in 2000 Game 4. They weren’t just any two triples — they were the first two hits of the series for the Dodgers. Los Angeles is the second team to triple for its first two hits of a World Series, joining the 1953 Yankees, from Hank Bauer and Billy Martin, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Looking for a big bounceback in Game 2 is Yankees MVP favorite Aaron Judge who went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts in the series opener. His right field Dodgers counterpart Mookie Betts was hitless in Game 1 but did have a walk and a sacrifice fly. Both are capable of more in Game 2, though Freeman set a pretty high standard.
Aaron Judge went 1 for 5 with three strikeouts in Game 1 and is hitting .167/.304/.361 in the postseason. He has largely been a non-factor. Stanton and Soto have carried the offense through 10 games for the Yankees. Stanton hit another big home run in Game 1, though the bullpen could not make it stand up.

Plot summary (from Metacritic): “Players are put at the heart of their very own gangster movie, and let loose in a fully-realized 3 dimensional city with a cast of hundreds, 50 plus vehicles, ranging from sports cars to ice cream trucks and from boats to buses, 3 hours of music, including opera, reggae, house, drum and bass, pop and disco, and a huge array of street ready weapons.”
Resident Evil 4’s grasp of pace, tension, and campaign variety is still near flawless, as its thirst for truly revolting insectoids. Legendary director Shinji Mikami and the team at Capcom popularised the over-the-shoulder view seen in every game after from The Last of Us to Grand Theft Auto. The critical reception to a 2023 remake shows its impact has not waned a jot.
Silent Hill 2 also left a legacy as one of the releases that really helped establish video games as an art form. It’s a debate that took decades to really settle – some would say it really hasn’t even now – but the game’s focus on symbolism, inspirations like Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, and its exploration of the occult and taboo all helped cement the medium as a place that’s just as good at exploring emotion and psyche as film and literature.
Starting the journey of Fallout 2 as a tribesman with nothing more than a loincloth and a spear to my name and gradually fighting my way up to a power-armored, gauss-gunning killing machine is a fantastic and surprisingly natural feeling of progression – one that few games have been able to match. Exploring a vast post-apocalyptic world full of deadly raiders, supermutants, and deathclaws is daunting but exciting. Thanks to attention to detail, atmospheric music, powerfully written morally ambiguous quests, and voice-acted interactions with key characters, the world feels personal and vivid even though we view it from a distant third-person camera. – Dan Stapleton (Read Our Review)
Game 2 world series
“We gave ourselves a chance to get back in it and win that game off a really good reliever. I love the at-bats there at the end, the compete, the fight,” he said postgame. “No one said it’s going to be easy. It’s a long series and we need to make a it a long series now. We won’t flinch. We just gotta keep at it.”
Sunday is an off-day, then Game 3 is Monday night at Yankee Stadium. The Dodgers are two wins away from the eighth World Series title in franchise history and, historically, teams with a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven have gone on to win the series 84% of the time. Righties Clarke Schmidt and Walker Buehler are the scheduled Game 3 starting pitchers.
You have to go back to 1996 for the last time a team erased a 2-0 series deficit to win the World Series. That team? The Yankees. They came back to beat the Braves in that Fall Classic for the first of their four championships from 1996-2000. New York will have to hope that comeback ability is in their organizational DNA. The Dodgers won an instant classic in Game 1 and were able to avoid disaster in the ninth inning of Game 2.
Milwaukee first baseman Rhys Hoskins won the Marvin Miller man of the year award, given to a player whose leadership inspires others, and the philanthropist of the year award. Along with wife Jayme, Hoskins has raised over $1 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Dodgers got on the board first in the second inning on Tommy Edman’s solo home run off Carlos Rodón. Soto evened the score in the top of the third but that’s where the offense stalled for New York. The Dodgers extended their lead later that inning on Teoscar Hernández’s two-run home run to the right field stands. Moments later Freddie Freeman — the hero of Game 1 — hit a solo shot to make it 4-1 Los Angeles.
